What is PRP?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a blood plasma substance with a high concentration of platelets, which promote hair growth. It is extracted from your blood using a centrifuge mechanism, separating the plasma from the red blood cells. The PRP is then injected into the areas of your scalp affected by hair loss. The process only takes a short time and you should only feel mild discomfort, if any, during treatment.
There is no downtime required following treatment, and you can return to your normal daily activities straight away. You may feel some slight soreness around the site of the injections, but this will go within a few days. Treatment results vary from case to case, but you can expect your hair growth to continue to improve over six months post-treatment. Your clinician will be able to show your progress in a routine follow-up appointment, and advise if repeat treatment is necessary.
Cellenis PRP System
At Tracey Bell, we use the Cellenis PRP system. PRP is used in hair loss to stimulate the anagen phase of hair growth and prolong the catagen phase. Typically 3-4 treatments are required, and supplements such as minoxidil may also be advised.
We would always advise those suffering from hair loss to attempt to define the cause. We can provide the Trichotest and blood tests to aid the diagnosis of your hair loss.
PRP can also be used for other conditions, including skin rejuvenation, scar reduction and facial filler treatment.
