How are crowns made
A crown can be made from a variety of materials, including metal, gold, porcelain and ceramic. The material used depends on several factors, including the patient’s desires and expectations, where the crown will be placed in the mouth, the health of the surrounding teeth and gums and the patient’s budget. At Tracey Bell, we offer full porcelain, EMAX, ceramic, gold and porcelain bonded to metal crowns. Our experienced clinicians at Tracey Bell are happy to discuss with you your options and any concerns you may have around crowns. What are the benefits of a crown?
- Restores the natural shape of a tooth
- Allows a misaligned smile to be straightened
- Protects a weak tooth from further damage
- Restores missing teeth, boosting confidence
EMAX crowns
As technology develops, so does the demand for metal-free restorations. EMAX crowns are made from a special ceramic material and contain no metal at all, making them a popular choice.Key benefits:- Superior aesthetic result, especially when compared to traditional crowns
- Easy to fit, with almost instant results
- Strong and durable
- Short and convenient treatment
- Natural, tooth-coloured outcome
All ceramic crowns
Ceramic crowns offer the strength of a bonded crown combined with the appearance of a porcelain crown, and are suitable for use in all areas of the mouth. They look beautifully natural in the mouth.Key benefits:- Virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth
- Can be placed above the gumline, a healthier position for the tooth and gums
- Superior aesthetic appearance
- Strong and durable
- Eliminates the risk of a dark blue line visible at the edge of the gums, which can happen with crowns built on a metal core.
Gold crowns
Gold crowns are well-established and have been used longer than any other type of crown. Although not as aesthetically pleasing, they need only simple preparation of the tooth, with the healthy tooth structure remaining untouched.Key benefits:- Durable and long-lasting
- A more precise fit than other types of crown
- Chip-resistant, unlike porcelain crowns
- Provides a healthy environment for the gums
- A good choice for patients who clench or grind their teeth
Porcelain bonded crowns
Porcelain bonded crowns are the most popular tooth coloured crown provided in the UK. They are resilient and aesthetically pleasing, with a strong metal core surrounded by an outer layer of tooth coloured porcelain.
Key benefits:
- Creates a beautiful, natural appearance
- Durable and hard wearing
- Superior aesthetic qualities
- Offers true value for money
- The most popular and widely used crown in all of dentistry
Instant Teeth
Since 2013, we have provided instant crowns, bridges and teeth at Tracey Bell clinics.
Using the latest digital technology a crown, bridge or veneer – permanent or temporary – can be provided in normally under an hour. We use Cerec technology and digital dentistry to scan, mill, 3D print and provide your smile instantly.
Our cases on Facebook and Instagram show the smiles that can be created with this digital dental technology.
PMMA
PMMA is a plastic material that is used in dentistry for temporary and permanent restorations. The material is soft, hard wearing and aesthetic.
At Tracey Bell we can create full arch ‘snap in’ teeth from the PMMA or single crowns and bridges. The material is biocompatible and is a fantastic temporary solution during implant restorations and smile design.
In 2020, we had a fully digitalised milling machine installed at Tracey Bell, allowing smiles to be designed by the labs in the UK and worldwide and the teeth milled and printed instantly on the Isle of Man.
