So you keep seeing adverts for Microneedling and Radiofrequency, but are they all the same or is it like comparing apples and Pears?
Morpheus8 is a micro-needling device that combines micro-needling with radiofrequency (RF) technology to deliver fractional thermal energy to the skin.
This technology allows the treatment to penetrate deeper into the skin, up to 4mm and can be adjusted to varying depths depending on the individual’s needs. So thats the main point here depth
Compared to other micro-needling devices, Morpheus8 offers several unique benefits. Here are some of the differences:
- Depth of treatment: Morpheus8 can reach depths of up to 4mm, which is more profound than most other micro-needling devices. This allows for more effective treatment of deeper skin concerns, such as acne scars, wrinkles, and skin laxity.
- Customisation: The device has adjustable needle depth and can deliver a range of thermal energy levels, allowing for a fully customisable treatment plan tailored to each individual’s skin concerns.
- Safety: Morpheus8 uses a unique safety feature that measures skin impedance and adjusts the energy output accordingly to prevent overheating and reduce the risk of side effects. So you don’t end up with burns. Depressions, scarring – and yes, we have seen this already with other devices on the market – no control of energies, no power on skin temperature and Burns
- Versatility: Morpheus8 can be used on various body parts, including the face, neck, arms, abdomen, and thighs, making it a versatile treatment option.Thats what the clinical research says
However, it’s important to note that Morpheus8 is a medical-grade device that should only be used by licensed and experienced skincare professionals. As with any medical procedure, there are potential risks and side effects that should be discussed with us or others before undergoing treatment.
In my opinion, Morpheus8 – I like the treatment, but it is painful – nothing that we can’t control, but anaesthesia is recommended
It is excellent for scarring, skin tightening and rejuvenation
It is suitable to be used with other combination treatments
Do I think it dissolves fat, maybe inadvertently, but? I do not believe that it can affect fat as the fat is often more profound, and quite simply, the science doesn’t add up.
Is it a replacement for a facelift – Never – no machine will ever replace a facelift, but as a preventive measure and in the proper clinical hands, it does as it says – skin tightening and rejuvenation
Are there papers on Morpheus8?
Indeed, here are some published studies on the effects of Morpheus8:
- “Evaluation of Safety and Efficacy of a Fractional Radiofrequency Microneedle Device Used Alone or in Combination with Fractional CO2 Laser for the Treatment of Atrophic Acne Scars in Indian Patients”: This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of Morpheus8 for the treatment of atrophic acne scars in Indian patients. The study found that Morpheus8 was safe and effective and significantly improved the appearance of acne scars. (Source: Dermatologic Surgery, 2021)
- “Morpheus8 for Treatment of Melasma: A Prospective, Open-Label Study”: This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of Morpheus8 for treating melasma, a common skin condition that causes hyperpigmentation. The study found that Morpheus8 was safe and effective and led to significant improvements in melasma pigmentation. (Source: Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2021)
- “A prospective, split-face study evaluating the safety and efficacy of a novel radiofrequency micro-needling device for skin rejuvenation”: This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of Morpheus8 for skin rejuvenation. The study found that Morpheus8 was safe and effective and significantly improved skin texture, tone, and overall appearance. (Source: Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy, 2020)
- “Efficacy and safety of a novel fractional radiofrequency microneedle system for treatment of facial wrinkles and skin laxity: A pilot study”: This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of Morpheus8 for the treatment of facial wrinkles and skin laxity. The study found that Morpheus8 was safe and effective and led to significant improvements in the appearance of wrinkles and skin laxity. (Source: Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, 2019)
Should you compare Morpheus8 to other Microneedling Devices?
Of course, you should, but in doing so, please ensure you know the correct questions to ask
- Is the machine FDA approved – where was it produced, and by which company
- Can you show me the evidence and papers
- A Ce mark – means nothing. You can buy them, and they do and means nothing
- What is the depth of penetration of the needle, and is the energy controlled ( no injuries, please)
- Show me the results and who is licensed to use the machine – training in a day by anyone says it all

In conclusion, apples and pears
The phrase “comparing apples and pears” means comparing two fundamentally different things that cannot be compared fairly or accurately. It is often used to indicate that two items being compared are not analogous or have no common ground, and therefore the comparison is not meaningful. The phrase implies that the comparison is unreasonable or illogical, like comparing apples and pears, which are two different types of fruit- just my thoughts before I begin to study and like all things – the proof is in the science, the research and then putting it into practice – that’s why I like Morpheus8 but for the purpose, it was intended and with realistic expectations – you’ll not be not disappointed
