So whilst im topping up My Vitamin D, my skin is protected, and here are my thoughts

🤩As we age, it becomes more important than ever to protect our skin from the harmful effects of the sun. Not only does the sun cause premature ageing and wrinkles, but it can also lead to more serious conditions such as skin cancer. One of the best ways to protect your skin is by wearing an SPF, or sun protection factor, daily. In this blog post, we will explore the importance of wearing an SPF, the sun’s effects on the skin, and how SPF work to keep your skin healthy and youthful.

✅The Effects of the Sun on the Skin

The sun emits harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which can damage the skin in several ways. One of the most apparent effects of sun exposure is sunburn, which can cause redness, pain, and peeling. However, the damage goes much deeper than the surface of the skin. Over time, UV radiation can cause the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which are proteins that keep the skin firm and elastic. This leads to wrinkles, sagging, and a loss of volume in the face. UV radiation can also cause dark spots, freckles, and uneven skin tone and increase the risk of skin cancer. The canvas ( skin) I call it is so important in anti ageing.

✅How SPF Works

SPF measures how well a sunscreen will protect the skin from UVB radiation, which is the type of radiation that causes sunburn and skin cancer. The higher the SPF, the more protection it provides. For example, an SPF of 15 will block approximately 93% of UVB radiation, while an SPF of 30 will block about 97%. However, it’s important to note that no sunscreen can provide 100% protection.
SPF works by absorbing or reflecting UV radiation before penetrating the skin. Chemical sunscreens contain ingredients such as oxybenzone, avobenzone, and octinoxate, which absorb UV radiation and convert it into heat, which is then released from the skin. On the other hand, physical sunscreens contain ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which reflect UV radiation like a mirror. Physical sunscreens are often recommended for sensitive skin, as they are less likely to irritate.

✅Why Wearing an SPF is Important

Wearing an SPF is important for several reasons. First and foremost, it helps to protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun, including premature ageing, wrinkles, and skin cancer. Even on cloudy days, UV radiation can still penetrate the skin, so wearing an SPF daily is important. This is especially true for those who spend much time outdoors, as they are at a higher risk of sun damage.
In addition to protecting the skin, wearing an SPF can also improve the skin’s overall appearance. By preventing UV damage, an SPF can help to maintain a smooth, even skin tone and prevent the development of dark spots and freckles. It can also help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and prevent the loss of volume in the face.

✅Choosing the Right SPF✅

When choosing an SPF, it’s essential to consider your skin type and your level of sun exposure. – We have the OBSERV 520 In Clinic that we can help you with this

For example, if you have fair skin that burns quickly, you may want to choose a higher SPF, such as 50 or above. On the other hand, if you have darker skin that is less prone to sunburn, you may be able to use a lower SPF. It’s also important to reapply sunscreen every two hours or more often if you are swimming or sweating.
In addition to wearing an SPF, there are other steps you can take to protect your skin from the sun. These include wearing protective clothing, such as hats and long-sleeved shirts, seeking shade during the hottest part of the day, and avoiding tanning beds

🙈Types of sunblocks / spf creams EWhats the difference ( asks James )

Yes, there are two main types of sunblock or SPF creams: chemical and physical.

Chemical Sunscreens: Chemical sunscreens contain ingredients such as oxybenzone, avobenzone, and octinoxate, which work by absorbing UV radiation before it can penetrate the skin. These ingredients convert the UV radiation into heat, which is then released from the skin. Chemical sunscreens are generally lightweight and easy to apply, and they often contain other beneficial ingredients, such as antioxidants and moisturizers. However, some people with sensitive skin may experience irritation or allergic reactions to chemical sunscreens.

Physical Sunscreens: Physical sunscreens contain ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which work by reflecting UV radiation away from the skin like a mirror. These ingredients sit on top of the skin and create a physical barrier that prevents UV radiation from penetrating the skin. Physical sunscreens are often recommended for sensitive skin, as they are less likely to irritate. However, they can be heavier and more challenging to apply than chemical sunscreens and may leave a white cast on the skin.
In addition to these two types of sunscreens, there are also hybrid sunscreens that contain a combination of chemical and physical ingredients. These can provide the benefits of both types of sunscreens, such as lightweight texture and broad-spectrum protection.
When choosing a sunscreen, it’s important to consider your skin type and personal preferences. Both chemical and physical sunscreens can provide effective protection against UV radiation. Still, some people may prefer one type over another based on skin sensitivity, ease of application, and cosmetic appearance. It’s also essential to choose a sunscreen with an appropriate SPF level and to reapply it regularly, especially if you are spending a lot of time outdoors or participating in water activities.
