Lip Filler, lip augmentation, Russian lips, so many descriptions and titles, but simply put, lip filler is the use of a product, a dermal filler placed into the lip.
What do I need to know considering a lip filler?
1. The type of dermal lip filler.
Do you know there are hundreds of different lip fillers?
Do you know that something FDA-approved means that they have undergone rigorous tests and safety parameters?
Do you know that some lip fillers do not even have a CE mark or any safety test, and at present, that’s legal? So the devices, i.e. the carrier, may need a devices certificate, but the filler, well, nothing required.
The filler comes in many different forms, materials, rheology, thickness, and additives – and I bet you have never considered any of that.
So when it comes to lip filler products, pick a hyaluronic acid product, choose one that is FDA approved, and pick one that is designed in consistency and thickness for the lip.
I have you thinking now.
2. The Injector and anatomy
I believe that knowledge of anatomy and its medical knowledge is essential
You can’t learn it in a day, in a year.
Everyone is different – even anatomically, you learn it with experience, practice, review of results, and complications.
Knowing your anatomy and assessing the lip, position, jaw relationship, and teeth position are all important when considering a lip filler.
I see ‘experts’ on Facebook/social media daily.
Still, again even a medic isn’t an expert until I believe they have practiced their skill, dealt with complications, and reflected upon events Over many years.
Treating different ethnicities brings different issues also, an expert any opinion injects regularly, is knowledgeable of all techniques, has used many products, that’s experience.
Again, the injector should, in my opinion, be a medic trained to a post-graduate level in aesthetic medicine who has undergone practical and academic assessment.
The injector should be ethical, know and discuss consent, risk, benefits and outcomes, provide a cooling off and most of all, understand what you wish to achieve
The consent for Dermal lip fillers is personal to each lip filler patient.
3. Complications
Complications are rare but can also be catastrophic.
The ACE guidelines https://acegroup.online
Provides guidelines for all types of complications. I would advise all patients to ensure again that their practitioner is a member of such organisations as
SaveFace https://www.saveface.co.uk
For quality and assurance, checks are made.
I have been involved in dermal filler and aesthetic medicine since 2002. I have lectured for Allergan and Sanofi Aventis and spoke at BDA, Aesthetic Medicine and other Conferences since 2008.

Dermal lip fillers can and do bring beautiful results and enhancements.
Knowing what to ask for in consultation and how to find a practitioner in lip fillers is almost a task that is impossible – when you are trying to identify the doctor, nurse, dentist, therapist, or surgeon for you.
However, that choice of practitioner, product, and ultimately placement is essential. So never be afraid to ask about all of the above.
