Lasers are the most common and effective method for removing unwanted tattoos, as they can selectively target and break down the ink particles in the skin. At Tracey Bell clinics, we have a number of different laser treatment options to help with tattoo removal.
Q-switched lasers
These emit high intensity pulses of light that are absorbed by the ink particles in the skin. As this occurs, the ink particles heat up and break down into smaller fragments, which the body’s immune system can then remove.
PICO lasers
These are a newer type of laser technology developed for tattoo removal. They use ultra-short pulses of energy to deliver more precise and targeted treatment, and are particularly effective for removing stubborn and hard-to-treat tattoos, such as those including blue and green ink.
The PICO laser uses picosecond technology to help break down the ink particles faster than traditional Q-switched lasers. They also have fewer side effects, produce less heat and cause less damage to the surrounding skin tissue, making them a safer and more practical option for tattoo removal. The number of treatments required with the PICO laser varies depending on the size and colour of the tattoo, the depth of the ink and your skin type and health. Most patients typically require between 4 and 10 treatments to see effective results.
It is also essential to remember that complete tattoo removal may not be possible in all cases, particularly for tattoos with specific colours, such as green and blue, which can be more challenging to remove. Additionally, some individuals may experience temporary side effects, such as swelling and redness, following PICO laser tattoo removal treatment.
