Skin tags are benign, small, soft, skin-coloured growths that typically occur on the neck, underarms, and other body areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing. While they are generally harmless, skin tags can be unsightly or irritating for some individuals, and they may choose to have them removed.

One common method for removing skin tags is through surgical excision. This involves cutting off the skin tag with a scalpel or scissors and applying a topical antiseptic. While this method is effective, it may result in scarring, bleeding, or infection.

At Tracey Bell, as an alternative to the surgical method, we can use an electrosurgery unit to remove skin tags. Electrosurgery units use high-frequency electrical energy to cut, cauterise, or coagulate tissue. When used for skin tag removal, the electrosurgery unit can cut off the skin tag at its base while simultaneously cauterising the surrounding blood vessels to minimise bleeding. This method can be more precise and less invasive than surgical excision and may result in less scarring and faster healing time. The procedure is typically quick and relatively painless, although some individuals may experience mild discomfort or stinging.

It’s important to note that while skin tag removal using an electrosurgery unit can be effective, it should only be performed by a qualified and experienced medical professional to minimise the risk of complications or side effects. Additionally, individuals should avoid picking or pulling at skin tags, as this can cause bleeding, infection, or scarring. Therefore, if you are considering skin tag removal, it’s essential to consult with a medical professional to determine the best course of treatment for your individual needs.
