A gummy smile occurs when a significant amount of gum tissue is visible when you smile. It can be caused by a number of factors, including an overactive upper lip muscle, poor dental hygiene or simply an excess of gum tissue.
There are several ways to fix a gummy smile, which we can help with at Tracey Bell clinics. These include:
- Anti-wrinkle injections can be injected into the upper lip muscle to weaken the contraction, reducing the amount of gum tissue visible when you smile.
- Dermal fillers can be placed into the upper lip to add volume and create a fuller appearance, balancing the proportions between your upper lip and gum.
- Dental procedures can help when the gummy smile is caused by the position of the teeth or the jawbone. Procedures such as orthodontics, crown lengthening and a gingivectomy (removing excess gum tissue) may be recommended. Back to concerns
