Douglas based Karen Miller is the first nurse to be awarded a Level 7 qualification in non-surgical facial aesthetics

A first for the Isle of Man: A Level 7 Nurse in Botox and Dermal fillers.

Douglas based Karen Miller is the first nurse to be awarded a Level 7 qualification in non-surgical facial aesthetics by The Institute of Clinical Excellence and Salford University.

In  2012, the PIP breast implant scandal, where cost-cutting decisions resulted in injuries following rapid growth within the non-surgical aesthetics industry, resulted in the UK Department of Health appointing Health Education England to review and advise on the regulatory framework within the cosmetic industry, including Botox and fillers. As a result,  accreditation and qualifications were introduced.

In 2019 Salford University, with local dentist and aesthetic practitioner Dr Tracey Bell as Clinical lead, accepted their first students to the PGcert in Non-surgical Facial Aesthetics.

The course consists of 2 modules – Botox and dermal fillers – each comprised of 300 hours of academic and clinical training to gain knowledge and undertake research, continually assessed to establish clinical outcomes.

Karen said, “I am delighted to have achieved this highly valued post-graduate certificate. Although I have practiced since 2004, my aim was to obtain a university accreditation to a standard recognised throughout the profession. After one year comprised of many hours of academic study, clinical training and practical assessment, I am very proud to have attained a Level 7 accreditation.”

Karen has worked with Tracey since 2004, at the Tracey Bell Aesthetic Clinic in Kensington Road. Tracey said, “I’m delighted for Karen. She was already an experienced practitioner but by undertaking this rigorous post-graduate course, Karen has proved her commitment to education education with regard to all aspects of facial aesthetics. She was not only academically and clinically excellent but an outstanding role model to those students who had little or no experience.”

Karen offers treatments in Botox, fillers and lasers at the Tracey Bell Clinic and, with this award marking a significant milestone in her career, she looks forward to continuing to provide her trusted service to clients as well as mentoring future students and fellow colleagues.
