Hello everyone,
I wanted to take some time to write this blog because, recently, a question was asked on social media that really surprised me. Someone asked:
“Do Tracey Bell Clinics remove skin tags?”
I was genuinely shocked to find out that many people didn’t know that this is something we do – and have done quietly and professionally for more than 22 years.
So today, I want to talk openly, in detail, and in the first person about this simple but important service that we provide right here in the Isle of Man. I want to explain what skin tags (sometimes affectionately mis‑spelt as “skin tanks”) are, what cherry angiomas are, why they occur, and most importantly – how we at Tracey Bell Dental and Aesthetic Clinics remove them safely in a confidential clinical environment with experienced medical staff.
Skin Tags – What Exactly Are They?
Skin tags are one of those little things in life that are harmless but can be annoying.
They are soft, flesh‑coloured growths that usually sit on a small stalk. Most people notice them in areas where the skin folds or rubs, such as:
- Around the neck,
- Under the arms,
- Beneath the breasts,
- In the groin,
- Or even on the eyelids.
For some, they appear after hormonal changes, during pregnancy, or simply with age. For others, they appear due to constant friction from clothing or jewellery.
They are benign, which means non‑cancerous, and they don’t turn into anything serious. However, they can catch, they can bleed, and quite frankly, they can get in the way.
Over the years, I have seen countless patients who felt self‑conscious about a tiny tag on their neck or who kept catching a larger one under their arm. The relief they feel after removal is immediate.
Cherry Angiomas – Those Little Red Dots
Alongside skin tags, another very common question we hear is:
“What are those tiny red spots on my skin?”
Most of the time, they are cherry angiomas. These are also benign. They are small, bright red or purple spots that can appear anywhere on the body. They are formed by clusters of tiny blood vessels close to the skin’s surface.
Again, they are completely harmless, but they can grow or become raised. Sometimes people catch them while shaving or they notice them changing and want reassurance.
I always say – if something on your skin worries you, show it to a professional. We assess every lesion carefully before we treat it. Peace of mind is part of the service we have always offered.
Why Do These Appear?
Skin tags and cherry angiomas have different causes, but there are some common threads:
- Friction and rubbing – areas like the neck or underarms are prone to skin tags because the skin is constantly moving.
- Genetics – if your parents had them, chances are you might too.
- Ageing skin – as we get older, cherry angiomas in particular are very common.
- Hormonal changes – skin tags often appear in pregnancy or with changes in weight.
- Sun exposure and vascular changes – these can sometimes contribute to the appearance of angiomas.
The important thing to remember is that neither is dangerous – but they can be annoying, they can bleed, and they can affect confidence.
How Do We Remove Skin Tags and Cherry Angiomas at Tracey Bell?
Here at Tracey Bell, we have been offering non‑surgical and surgical removal of skin tags, cherry angiomas, lumps, and bumps for over two decades. We work in a confidential, clinical environment, with experienced medical staff who understand both the aesthetic and medical side of skin care.
Depending on the type, size and location of the growth, we choose from a range of techniques:
- Cryotherapy (Freezing):
A quick, effective method that uses controlled freezing to remove the tag. The tissue shrivels and falls away after treatment.
- Electrocautery (Heat Devices):
We use carefully controlled heat to seal and remove the lesion, ideal for both skin tags and cherry angiomas.
- Surgical Excision:
For larger skin tags or lumps, we may use a local anaesthetic and perform a tiny surgical snip. This is done with precision and usually leaves only a minimal mark that fades over time.
- Laser Removal:
We have advanced laser technologies that target the vessels in a cherry angioma or cut through the base of a skin tag with minimal trauma.
Each method is chosen after a thorough consultation. Your safety, comfort and the best cosmetic outcome are always our priority.
What Happens During an Appointment?
Patients are often reassured to know exactly what happens when they come in
- Initial Consultation:
We take a medical history, examine the skin and discuss your options. If something looks unusual, we’ll refer you onwards or suggest a biopsy – your safety comes first.
- The Procedure:
Most removals are quick, often taking only a few minutes. We can use local anaesthetic for larger ones, and many people say, “Oh, that was so much easier than I expected!”
- Aftercare:
We provide clear instructions. Most sites heal beautifully with minimal scarring, and we are always here for follow‑up if you have any concerns.
Why Patients Don’t Know We Do This – and Why I’m Writing Now
For over 22 years, we’ve offered these treatments quietly, as part of our broader work in dental and aesthetic medicine. Because we are known for advanced dental care and facial aesthetics, people don’t always realise that we also provide these minor skin procedures.
When I saw the question on social media, it struck me that many people in the Isle of Man might be living with skin tags, cherry angiomas, or other lumps and bumps simply because they don’t know help is available locally.
That’s why I’m writing this blog: to let you know that we do that simple treatment
Confidential, Caring and Professional
Everything we do is in a confidential, clinical environment. Our medical staff are highly experienced, and we follow strict standards of infection control, documentation and patient care.
It’s not just about removal – it’s about reassurance. It’s about knowing you’re in safe hands. Many patients have said after their treatment, “I wish I’d done this years ago.”
Our Vision at Tracey Bell
Over the past 30 years, my vision for Tracey Bell has always been the same:
to provide excellence in patient care, combining medical expertise with a kind, personal approach.
Whether it’s a complex aesthetic procedure or something as simple as removing a tiny skin tag, my goal is to make sure every patient feels valued, listened to and cared for.
We are proud to be based in the Isle of Man, serving the local community and welcoming new patients every day. Our commitment to patient‑centred care is unwavering.
