Losing Perspective
I suppose in all walks and situations in life we are always in danger of losing perspective – life, an argument , a situation and even facial dermal filler.
Gwen Stefani has once again made ‘headline news’ with her ‘new face’, plumped up lips and at 52 her face has certainly changed – I’d guess a combination of non surgical procedures, dermal fillers, botox and of course surgery.
The danger here though is when attempting to reverse and improve signs of ageing both the patient and the practitioner start to lose perspective.
I often, in fact weekly, see patients who ‘want more filler’. Many will tell you I send them away (probably to attend somewhere else) but those that have taken advice, reduce their filler intake, remove it in some cases – in general I feel look better at any age.
So why do we lose perspective in terms of fixing a facial filler problem.
Is it the fact that the patient often perceives ‘just one more syringe’ will fix the problem or ‘1 right will undo 1000 wrongs’.
Maybe because I look at teeth in minute detail, faces and wrinkles and harmony seem somewhat easy and much bigger.
I hone in on faces that have lost facial harmony, natural curvature and beauty. Maybe not noticeable to everyone but to my patients and I think ‘natural beauty’ and respect for facial harmony, symmetry and beauty is important.
Back to Gwen and others – of course the practitioner, surgeon has a duty to educate, to advise and to most of all recognise what can be fixed and by what means.
Patients are really at the ‘hands’ of the professionals (me included) and therefore education, knowledge about all procedures including dermal filling is essential.
As I’ve always said dermal filler is just that ‘fill’. They replace lost fat, they contour, they plump. They can provide the ‘illusion of a lift’ but they also migrate and go south.
Harmony and beauty.
Perspective is everything in creating smiles, faces just like a piece of art – to master the skill it takes years to practice, years of experience and the ‘art of never’ losing perspective.
The smile – well I’ll leave that to you to decide
